Challenges Faced by Persons with Disabilities in Making Meaningful Participation in Elections in Bhutan

The participation of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in an election process is essential to ensure that their political rights are exercised. This research examines the challenges faced by PwDs in accessibility to registration process, voting processes and accessibility to election-based information. A qualitative approach was used along with semi-structured one-on-one interview and telephone interview with participants. The research findings indicate that PwDs faced issues concerning the lack of confidentiality, lack of electoral form in PwDfriendly format, and the need to seek human assistance. PwDs did not face challenges in accessing voter registration, accessing the polling station and voter information.
